Here’s a hard truth for you: getting your home renovated isn’t always an easy process.
At C Brannon Construction, it’s our goal to make your home’s transformation as easy and painless as possible, but keep in mind that we will be taking a piece or two of your home out of commission, sometimes for weeks at a time. You could find yourself down a washroom, out of a kitchen, missing a living space, the list goes on. When we sit down in the planning stages of your dream project, we do our utmost to make sure you’re prepared for the work that is coming, but sometimes there’s a big difference between “hearing” about the scope of work, and having the scope of work happen around you!
Here’s a few tips from our team that will help you be mentally and physically prepared for your next home renovation project. If you’d like to learn more about how we keep the customer informed, on track, and up to date, check out The Brannon Way of doing business.
Ask Lots of Questions
We firmly believe there’s no such thing as a dumb question. In fact, the more questions you ask during the planning stages, the better you and your family will be prepared for the work that will follow. Ask yourself, “Do I understand the general points of the project? Is there anything I don’t quite get?” There’s no exam to pass at the end of our scheduled meetings and touchpoints, so ask away. We want YOU to feel comfortable and informed.
Make Sure Your Home Is Prepped
Our team works very hard to make sure that we’re prepared before we start work on your home, and you can help us by doing the same. Take a look around the room or area that’s going to be affected. Are there pictures hanging on the walls? Take them down and store them somewhere safe. Furniture that can be moved out of the way? You’ll be thankful you did so it doesn’t get dirty. Are there appliances that need to be moved to another room? Blinds that could be taken down? Do you need to empty your refrigerator? Our team will always give you suggestions and pointers on getting your home ready to start a renovation, but helps us get to work quicker if you’ve made a few quick adjustments before we arrive.
Lastly, if you’re going to be short a washroom, a kitchen sink, or refrigerator, be prepared for your backup plans. You might need to wash dishes in a tub on your back deck, or you might need to move all of the family’s washroom activities into one room. Your refrigerator or cooler might have to be stashed into the garage or basement. Preparing your home and family for disruptions will make the experience go easier for our team and yours. Or perhaps you plan to stay with friends or relatives during the renovation.
Get Ready for People Coming In and Out
With any home renovation in Calgary, there’s going to be a lot of people coming in and out of your home. Between our team, plumbers, painters, electricians, delivery people and decorators, your peaceful home will be not-so-peaceful while we’re working on your dream project.
The first thing you can do to help us out is get an extra key cut for a lockbox. That way we don’t have to worry about you or someone in your family being home to let workers in and out of the home. There’s nothing more frustrating for both our team and the customer than having to take time out of a busy day to wait on someone with a key.
Do you have pets? We love our four-legged friends, but not only can they get in the way and become a safety issue during a renovation, but they also have a tendency to make a break for it when the doors are open, and during a home renovation, your doors are open a lot. Help us, and your pets, by making sure they are secure in other areas of the home, or safely out of the way with friends or at a kennel.
Your Routine WILL Get Disrupted
There’s no two ways about it, during a renovation or remodel project, your routine will be disrupted and knowing and understanding the scope of work and schedule will help with the shock of a project in your home. We firmly believe The Brannon Way of doing business alleviates 90% of the pain, but be prepared for lots of noise, dust, people, debris and general activity.
Believe it or not, this can be one of the hardest hurdles for customers, especially if it’s their first renovation project. Our homes are our sanctuaries, however we can’t take your project to the next level without disrupting your family’s routine, so be prepared to have your castle “out of sorts” over the duration of the project. At the end of the day, if you’re feeling overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle, call us. Communication is key to solving any issues and keeping the project on track.
Work Won’t Always Be On a 9-5 Basis
From time to time we’ll work late. We REALLY care about making the deadlines on your work schedule, and that requires overtime in your home. We’ll always ask if you don’t mind that we work late, especially if you’ve identified it as a pain point.
Keep in mind that you won’t have work happening every day. Always refer to the work schedule before calling us, but like any project with a lot of moving pieces, we need a bit of flexibility between the lines. Specialized trades and deliveries can come and go to work your project in amongst other schedules, so don’t panic if you came home for lunch and no one is there – we haven’t forgotten about you.
Help Us Help You
You’re always welcome to ask questions to the people working in your home, but one of the best ways to help us finish the job is by letting our team get down to business without interfering with their work. We completely understand the nerves and worry that can come from home renovation, but if you have concerns about the job site, call your General Contractor at C Brannon Construction and we can set your mind at ease.
Remember, the more we work on your home, the quicker we will finish!
At C Brannon Construction, it’s our goal to be Calgary’s most painless renovation company. That’s not to say that your project will come to completion without you noticing, but by keeping you informed, and staying transparent, we’ll make sure that you and your family’s dream renovation will be as painless as possible.
